BASTION
In our second year at HKU, the product design students were invited by kunstfort vijfhuizen to create work inspired by their location. The chance arose to exhibit our projects in and around the fort at the end of the project and in the next few months we arranged this as a class in conjunction with the fort. Below is the result of my project and its presentation.

Process
I was inspired by the concrete used in the construction of the fort and the relation this had to the nature surrounding the location. I started a material research where I soon started combining the concrete with styrofoam. The relationship between these two materials is interesting to me because of the contrasting properties. I chose to use styrofoam from packaging material because of the interesting shapes already present in it and to honor a material that usually wasn’t deemed useful beyond its first use.
